The Tennis Calendar: Following the Sun
Tennis is a truly global sport, meaning match times vary wildly depending on where the tour is playing. From the hard courts of Australia to the clay of Paris, keeping up requires a 24-hour schedule. The broadcasting rights are split between the four major "Grand Slams" and the regular tour events.
Where to Watch the Grand Slams
- Australian Open (January): Broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+. Because of the time difference, matches air late at night in the US.
- Roland Garros / French Open (May): Coverage is split between NBC (Peacock) and the Tennis Channel.
- Wimbledon (July): The most prestigious event airs on ESPN and ABC. Complete coverage of every outer court is available on the ESPN app.
- US Open (August): ESPN holds exclusive domestic rights, providing wall-to-wall coverage from New York.
ATP & WTA Tour Events
For the rest of the year (Masters 1000s and 500s), the Tennis Channel is the primary TV home. Cord-cutters often subscribe to Tennis Channel Plus or TennisTV (ATP only) to stream specific matches without commercials.
