Understanding the UFC Broadcast Structure
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has a unique broadcast model that can confuse new fans. A typical event is split into three parts, often airing on three different platforms. Understanding this "Waterfall" structure is key to finding the right stream.
1. Early Prelims (The Undercard)
These are the first fights of the night. They are almost always available on UFC Fight Pass, the organization's own streaming library service. Occasionally, they also simulcast on ESPN+.
2. The Prelims (The Lead-Up)
These feature recognizable names and serve as the hype builder for the main event. In the United States, Prelims air on the ESPN cable channel and stream simultaneously on ESPN+.
3. The Main Card (The Big Show)
This is where the champions fight.
- For "Fight Nights" (e.g., UFC Vegas), the Main Card is free for ESPN+ subscribers.
- For "Numbered Events" (e.g., UFC 300), the Main Card is an exclusive Pay-Per-View (PPV) purchase. You must have an active ESPN+ subscription and pay a separate fee for the event.
